In summary, the movie felt like an over-stylized music video. So much reliance on slow mo action scenes and very little real weight or substance. The soundtrack was not well chosen. It was a lazy, over familiar bunch of fairly boring songs. Some of the acting was less than effective, the over the top violence was comical at times, and a lot of the messages from the novel were lost. I’m not sure if Snyder could have done it that differently though. Getting the balance between critical and commercial success in Hollywood is notoriously difficult. In order for him to get the financing and distribution that was required, he needed to sell his soul to a certain degree and some of the integrity of the original story. I don’t want to bring The Dark Knight into this, but Nolan’s story managed much better to get across what it was to be be a super-hero and also had the extra weight of a truly genius character actor in Ledger. TDK still soars above every other Super-Hero movie.
