Coming Out This Week
Each week on The Venntertainment Show, we’ll be suggesting some movies that we deem to be worth watching. Here’s a few for this week.
Youth in Revolt
This is Michael Cera’s new movie. I caught a preview of it and reviewed it here. This one is well worth a look, it doesn’t bring much new material to the teen comedy genre, but is very funny all the same. There are great cameos from the likes of Ray Liotta, Steve Buscemi and Zach Galifianakis. It also sees Michael Cera take his first steps out of his comfort zone and create one of the coolest teen movies alter-egos in recent years (if there’s ever been a teen alter ego movies previous to this). Think Superbad meets Fight Club for it’s rebellious nature.
Invictus
Clint Eastwood’s latest is worth a look for a few reasons. The cast looks great, it’s almost 6 nations season and it’s one of the greatest sporting stories of all time. Anthony, my co-presenter on The Venntertainment Show caught a preview of this and felt that it wasn’t the movie that it could have been. To me, Morgan Freeman is going to do a good job, but will most likely act himself. Matt Damon is a very fine actor too, but what justice can an American do for a rugby movie as a South African? I could be wrong, but the movie is definitely worth a look.
Summer Blockbusters – Put these in your diary!
Kick Ass
This is Mark Millar’s latest comic, his follow up to Wanted. Mathew Vaughan (Layer Cake, Stardust) is at the helm of what looks like a very promising film. I’ve been following the movie for quite some time, it’s got a pretty cool cast. Mark Strong, Nic Cage, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz (one to watch), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin) all play various superheroes. The movie focuses on Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) who decides to become a super-hero one day. He has no powers, or reason to do so. he just feels like it!
I’d suggest you check out the red-band trailer for Chloe Moretz’s character, Hit Girl. Expect swearing and extreme violence from a 12 year-old super-hero!
Inception
Finally, I’d like to recommend that you check out the trailer to Christopher Nolan’s new movie. This is the follow up to his massive hit, The Dark Knight. This is no Batman movie though, it’s a sci-fi. all we know about it is that it’s – ‘A contemporary science fiction tale set within the architecture of the human mind.’
Another great cast with Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Cane, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard this one could be huge. Oh, and the soundtrack is by none other than Hans Zimmer who wrote the wonderful soundtrack to The Dark Knight. I’m really looking forward to this!
