I haven’t said anything about this on the blog as yet,but most of you will have heard my news on Twitter last week.
For those that haven’t, Toyota launched a Twitter campaign for their new iQ model. 4 lucky bloggers were to be given an iQ for 6 months in return for blogging and tweeting about their experience.
Well, I got a phone call from their Marketing department last week to be told that I had been chosen as one of the four, and I picked up my car yesterday.
I made my way to Toyota HQ off the Long Mile Road in Dublin and met with their Marketing and Technical folk for a short presentation about the car’s features and design. Suspension and braking/traction is quite special. It drives like a car with two or three times its power.
It’s incredibly efficient. 65 miles to the gallon and because of it’s minuscule emissions, costs a measly €108 in motor tax per year. Compare that against my Peugeot 206 – €280 for the year, and it’s also a 1L city car.
What’s it actually like to drive though?

I’ve only had it a few hours, but so far, the car has driven like a dream. Its low centre of gravity and streamlined body mean that it’s incredibly nippy. The interior is really comfortable. Leather heated seats and extra leg room make for a very pleasant driving experience.
My first project with the car is to see how it copes with long distance driving. I’ll be traveling to Dingle on Friday and think that it’ll be a good test for the car. Already I’ve found that it deals with motorways very well, and I’ve created loads of boot room for luggage by folding down the back seats (the headrests have a little spot under the seat and everything
)
So overall, a very happy iQ owner right here so far, and here’s to 6 months of great driving and writing. Congrats also go to @keithbohanna (http://bohanna.typepad.com/pureplay/) @christineduggan (http://www.dmpr.ie/) and @maryrose (http://brightspark-consulting.com/blog/)for winning the other 3Toyota iQs – Happy driving guys!
